To better welcome individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, Good Shepherd Parish welcomes you to participate a Sensory Mass.
The liturgy features dimmed lights, softer music and simpler homily. Most importantly, we will foster a stigma-free space where everyone is encouraged to participate as they are-moving around, using fidgets, noise-canceling headphones, or alternative seating as needed. Please bring fidget toys, weighted blankets, noise canceling headphones, etc.
Lunch will be provided after Mass.
We encourage you to register by clicking here, but it is not necessary.

FAQ
Why is a Sensory-Friendly Mass Necessary? A vast majority of Catholic families with members with disabilities do not attend Mass for various reasons. They may feel stigmatized or fear being disruptive. They may have had a negative experience while attending in the past. They may feel that it is just too difficult. Regardless of the reason, having a Mass that is specifically welcoming to these families is an essential step in bringing them back into the Church. A Sensory-Friendly Mass does not require a tremendous amount of change on the part of the parish. Lower lights, acoustical music, and visual aids are simple ways to make a liturgy more sensory-friendly.
Who would benefit from a Sensory-Friendly Mass? Many people benefit from the stigma-free and less stimulating environment of a Sensory-Friendly Mass. These liturgies benefit people with sensory processing issues, autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities and adults with Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia.
